DR.CHENNAKESAVALU PURUSHOTHAMAN

Birth and Education

DR.CHENNAKESAVALU PURUSHOTHAMAN with a pen name of PORIGNAR PURUDOTHAMAN, aged 84, was born Chennakesavalu-Alamelu Ammal parents on 06-06-1934 in a remote village of Tamil Nadu. After his elementary education in his native village Kalappanaickan Patti he entered into a High School Studies in the nearby town, Sendamangalam. Having completed his high school education, he admitted himself in Arts College, Thiruchirapalli, the adjacent district centre to his district. Then he, in quest of technical education joined in the Government College of Technology, Coimbatore and graduated as Bachelor of Engineering.

Government Service and Retirement

With his bachelor degree in hand, he got Government job in the Publics Works Department of Tamil Nadu State. He worked there in various branches of engineering holding various positions which he got under count of service. Having served for a successful period of 38 years, he retired on his attaining superannuation, as Superintending Engineer, an enviable position.

Post Retirement Services

Appointed as Principal in the Ramakrishna Nallammai Polytechnic College and served for TWO years. Then on the invitation of the Rural University, Gandhigram, Dindigul he held the post of Guest Lecturer for a period of One year.

Writing Career

His writing career commenced even while he was in government service. During 1985-86 it seems that while he was travelling in his jeep on duty he happened to see construction of houses with the help of masons. He was wounded when he saw the wrong arrangement of rods in a lintel. He got down and advised to correct the steel rod arrangements. That incident made him to write a book on the construction of a house. But he could not do it as the conduct rules prevented. He explored the possibility to bring out a book and at last he succeeded in his attempt. He wrote a complete book tand sent the manuscript to the government and got the permission of Government to publish the book and he did it in the year 1987. This is the story of his writing career. Following this he released two more books titled Tamil Coorum Nallulagam and Manaiyadi Sastharam and Poriyeal Kalai Oru Oppu Nokku during 1990 and 1993 respectively after getting permission from the Government. By the time he retired from Government Service and continued writing and so far brought out 18 books in Vernacular and three books in English language.

His writing continues and the world would expect as many books as possible from him during his life time

TRAVELS ABROAD.

He is fortunate to have a doctor son in U.S.A. Through him he has travelled a vast area in U.S.A. The travel to Big Island in Hawaii, Grand Canyon in Arizona State, Nayagra falls and visit to all theme parks in Orlando and Roller Coaster in Tampa are some to mention. The Alaska tour was also interesting and we enjoyed the crossing of Arctic Circle. Australian tour along with my son and wife was thrilling and the visit to the Olympic city and opera accelerated our thrill. While we return we returned with full satisfaction of having crossed equator for the first time in our life time. The recent tour of the South Africa’s wild animals’ kingdom parks, Table Mountain and the Cape of Good Hope proved as one of the best tours of my tours abroad. Above all the visit to the PRISON CELL OF NELSON MONDELA was of adventurous one and yielded much satisfaction of having seen the prison cell of a freedom fighter and NOBEL LAUREATE.
